Rapper Moneybagg Yo was recently involved in a shooting in New Jersey at a rest stop that left two individuals injured.
It was Saturday night (August 19) that the black Mercedes Sprinter van being used for transport by Yo and his crew was hit with rounds of gunfire near the Thomas Edison rest stop in Woodbridge, New Jersey going southbound on the New Jersey turnpike.
Moneybagg Yo and company were in the state for a performance in the city of Newark that was scheduled for Friday night (August 18). Presumably, the lot was en route from said performance when the shooting took place.
Currently, reports are that the two individuals injured are in serious condition with one suffering an injury to the head while the Memphis, Tenn. rapper did not sutain any injuries during the shooting.
While he and several member of his camp were escorted into a police car for questioning, it is not yet clear what role they played, if any, in the shooting.
Witness reports detail that the shooting occurred some time around 7:00 PM with law enforcement arriving within minutes and staying on the scene for several hours while the investigation went underway.
While the names of the victims have not yet been released, no suspect has been identified in connection with the shooting.
Moneybagg Yo, born Demario White, is well known as Memphis veteran Yo Gotti’s protégé after having signed on to Gotti’s CMG imprint in October of last year.
His signing was soon followed by the 2 Federal joint drop with Yo Gotti in the same month on October 31st and the subsequent Federal 3x project that arrived earlier in the month and features a notable appearance from Baton Rouge, LA-artist YoungBoy Never Broke Again, the sole guest apearance on the 15-track release.
Since his signing, the budding talent has enjoyed the fruits of an elevated profile, and judging by Saturday night’s attack, he’s also coming to terms with the negative, and often violent, side effects of rising to stardom.
While he’s still fresh to most, let’s hope this incident doesn’t plague his growing career as investigators work to get to the bottom of what exactly took place this weekend.
