Philippe Coutinho & Mesut
Liverpool, Arsenal & Barcelona
Two of the leading papers in Spain pair Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona on their front pages on Wednesday.
Both Sport and Mundo Deportivo have Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho and Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil on their splashes.
Both papers also look at the same story: who will Barcelona try to buy in January?
Mesut Ozil is number two
What’s clear in both Sport and Mundo Deportivo is that Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil is the plan B for Barcelona.
Ozil, of course, is out of contract at the end of the season. That means the German World Cup winner can leave the Emirates Stadium in six months for free.
Yet, from Barcelona’s perspective, Ozil is their second choice.
Mundo Deportivo add that Ozil wants to know as soon as possible if Barcelona will sign him.
Barcelona have reportedly met with Ozil’s representatives about a possible Camp Nou move. Ozil’s agent, say MD, have told the Catalans his client wants to know their decision in the next two weeks.
It’s clear Ozil wants to move to Barcelona if the deal is possible.
Philippe Coutinho is number one
Sport and Mundo Deportivo also agree that Liverpool’s Brazilian playmaker remains the priority signing for the Catalans.
MD report that Barcelona are planning a “final offensive” to sign the Liverpool star.
But what does that exactly mean?
Liverpool, of course, resisted multiple attempts from Barcelona to sign Coutinho in the summer.
What’s now changed to convince Liverpool to sell in January? One suspects Barcelona will have to offer an incredible sum of money if they stand any chance of signing Coutinho in the upcoming window.
